About the Cover
The cover illustration shows cardiomyocytes from human embryonic stem cells (HESCs) couple with primary human cardiomyocytes during in vitrotransplantation. HESC-derived cardiomyocytes (indicated by red PHKH26 staining) were grown for 24 hours in coculture with primary human fetal cardiomyocytes (tropomyosin stained retrospectively in blue). Lucifer Yellow injected into the HESC-cardiomyocytes (bright green and red coincident) flowed into the primary cardiomycytes through de novo gap junctions (light green cells), indicating functional coupling.
