The cover illustration shows the amplitudes of 3rd EPSPs in trains plotted against the 1st (horizontal axis) and 2nd interspike interval (vertical axis) as a 3D plot rendered as a colour contour. The average amplitude of 3rd EPSPs is determined by complex relations between preceding interspike intervals, neither the immediately preceding interval nor the sum of both preceding intervals alone determining the amplitude of the next EPSP.
